Cargo Insurance for International Auto Shippers

Why Cargo Insurance?

Maritime law limits steamship companies to a maximum liability of $500USD per vehicle. While we believe RoRo transport is the safest way to move a car overseas, we recommend auto shippers consider securing cargo insurance for enhanced confidence and peace of mind.

How much does it cost?

Cost is calculated at $0.50 per $100USD. Customers can insure their vehicles for Kelley Blue Book value plus an additional amount to cover vehicle costs as well as freight and other transportation costs (total amount not to exceed 150% of the KBB value). Customers who purchase cargo insurance under the ShipCarsNow insurance program offered through Aon receive the benefit of coverage for the entire move, from U.S. inland origin to the international port of call.

Policy Terms and Conditions

The cargo insurance policy covers international auto shippers against risks of physical loss or damage from external causes, excluding such risks as War, Strikes, Riots, and Civil Commotions*. No coverage will be provided for vehicles while operating under their own power outside the confines of a port, terminal or loading facility.

Deductible: $250.00 per occurrence.
